Das Video Chongqing ist eine Animation aus über 200 Fotografien. Die Bilder zeigen Ausschnitte von Wolkenkratzern, aufgenommen in der Millionenstadt Chongqing im Südwesten Chinas. Der Blickwinkel der Kamera ist nach oben, gegen den Himmel gerichtet. Durch die Animation der Bilder verändert sich der Ausschnitt des Himmels ständig. Mal verdichtet er sich, mal wird er grösser.
Am Anfang des Videos bewegen sich die Hochhäuser zum Rhythmus der klaren, hellen Musik des Yangqin (traditionelles chinesisches Saiteninstrument). Mit der Zeit wird dieser Rhythmus durch Krach (moderne experimentelle chinesische Musik) aufgehoben. Die Bilder werden langsamer, bleiben stehen, zucken nervös, werden schneller oder verschwinden ganz. Ein Tanz aus Stahl und Beton, mal zart tänzerisch, mal aggressiv bis bedrohlich apokalyptisch.

The video Chongqing* is an animation of over 200 photographs. Cutouts from the sky, framed by modern skyscrapers, shot in Chongqing, a megacity in the southwest of China. The images move to the sound of the Yangqin, an old traditional Chinese instrument. The rough buildings start to dance, showing different prespecives from the sky. Sometimes narrower, sometimes brighter, sometimes smooth and soft, sometimes aggressiv or threatening apocalyptic.
*Chongqing in southwest China is one of the emerging Megacities with a population of more than 32 million people, sprawled over an area of 82 300 km2. It is one of the world’s largest building site, a boom city that adds 1,300 new residents every day - or half a million new people ever year. In 2005, spending on infrastructure totaled US$25billion – part of a $300 billion plan.
